Interests

Social and Political Philosophy, particularly in the philosophical investigation of close interpersonal relationships.
Ethics, both normative ethical theories and applied ethics, such as environmental ethics.
Asian Philosophy and Comparative Studies, in particular the comparison of western social and political philosophy tradition with Confucian perspective, Confucianism and feminist care ethics.

Projects

My current research addresses the moral significance of family relationships. In my dissertation, I attempt to argue that we have moral obligations to respond appropriately to our family members’ needs, interests, or problems. After examining several influential theories on familial morality in recent philosophical literature as well as in ancient Confucian texts, I propose that familial obligations arise from an inherent feature of family relationships: a relationship can be meaningfully considered as a family relationship only if some basic mutual sharing, protection, support, and aid exist among family members.
